IMBASSAÍ
In
the language of the Tupi Indians this means "The
River's Path", and the name is well deserved. Sweet
water pours and cascades along a myriad paths paralleling the
dunes until reaching the sea.
Imbassaí's six kilometers of beaches are rimmed by high dunes,
and behind those dunes flows the Imbassaí river, offering
good swimming in sweet, calm waters. Because the river is
a natural barrier to vehicles, access to the beach
is open to only to pedestrians. This environmentally
protected area offers gift shops, good
restaurants and bars and even a well stocked gourmet delicatessen.
There
is also quite an array of locally run and operated beach cabanas
along the banks of the river. Here one can savor the delicious
native delicacies and discover the new and delightfully refreshing
and unusual local beverages, all the while mingling with the
ebullient local residents.
Other primary villages nearby include: Guaibim, Imbassaí,
Lençois, Morro de São Paulo. Imbassaí, which
is near to Costa de Sauipe, is becoming more popular because
of the recent construction and completion of the modern Linha
Verde or (Green Line) highway.
A visit to Imbassaí is a good choice to make.
By car or bus: 65 km from Salvador and 10 km from
excellent shopping in Praia
do Forte
